Out of the Ashes Directed by: Tim Albone and Lucy Martens Produced by Leslie Knott and Rachel Wexler South Africa, April 2009: The Afghan cricket team is one step away from the 2011 World Cup.
The squad, who started in the lowest
division, has battled their way through three qualifying tournaments to get
to the final stage in Johannesburg. It is a remarkable achievement for a
nation that has only had a team for seven years. They are up against
countries with World Cup experience, million dollar budgets and years of
cricketing history. Throw war, a lack of money and no facilities into the
mix and you get a compelling story of triumph over adversity. Out of The
Ashes is a long-term, 90-minute observational documentary on this inspiring
journey. In development for BBC/Storyville. Due for completion Spring
2010. A Bungalow Town/Shabash production.
